There is only one web traffic stats tracker in my opinion, and that nifty bit of software is Google Analytics. Free, easy to use, and pretty close to enterprise grade it can track any number of your websites traffic stats.

In the past i’ve given out some juicy nuggets on how I was able to double our subscriber rate in 24 hours. Google recently enabled the tracking of AdSense earnings in Analytics, and layering on some helpful tips.

I plan on updating this post as I find the time to catalog the tips I’ve been using for my own websites.

1. Use Regional Data to Improve Click Through Rates

Thought I’d start out with an easy one. Higher click through rates = more money so pay attention to this one

  1. After logging into your Analytics account, click the “Content” option in the top left of the Dashboard menu.
  2. Next click the $AdSense sub-option, and take a look at the page.
  3. Click the “Top Adsense Content” report and finally click through to your top performing page.
  4. Under the “Dimension” option, choose “City”. You now know the city where most of your ad ‘clickers’ come from.

This is tremendously powerful knowledge. What to do with this information? For starters if you’re running ad campaigns, localize to the top performing cities. The last step in this process is to repeat steps 1-4, but replace city with every other option in the list. Use this information to improve who you target your content, ads, and offerings to, and watch your CTR go up.
